Road Trip 2015: Leg 2: Yellowstone National Park

Our 4th national park on our quest to see as many as we can in our lifetime.
The great part about going from Grand Teton National Park to Yellowstone National Park is the fact that they border each other so it takes no time to transition from one to another. At this point in the trip, we were 3 days into our trip and had moved camp each day. In order to slow things down a bit, I had made reservations at Colter Bay CG so that we could establish a little basecamp to explore the park's loops.

Here are how our days in Jellystone worked out.

Day one included the Old Faithful Geyser Basin and nearby thermal features.
Day two included the Tower/Roosevelt and Grand Canyon Features.
Day three included Mammoth Hot Springs.

Lewis Falls

Had to see Old Faithful go off, but wasn't a huge fan of the crowds. However that's just part of being in a national park these days.

Morning Glory Pool was one of our favorites.
I think this one was called River Geyser. We got pretty lucky with the timing of the geysers.

Going to guess that this one was called Blue Pool.
All the colors were very impressive. Got to see the whole spectrum.
 Grand Prismatic Pool. Very impressive.

Fountain Pool

We had this campsite for two days. Not my favorite campsite ever, but it was nice to have a spot to post up for a few days. Just not a lot of cover or privacy. Elle the Element held up well through out the trip.

Grand Canyon of Yellowstone

Took a lot of convincing, but got Kerrie to descend down Uncle Tom's Trail to get to the lower view point of the falls. Gotta say that it was a little intimidating to me too. The staircase was bolted to the slide of a cliff.

Pulled the car over to the side of the road to post up and wait for some wildlife. Never saw any bears or wolves on the trip though. Maybe next time.
See any bears?

Mammoth Hot Spring Basin

Wahoo! Boiling river hot springs! Quite the zoo, but fun none the less. Finally got to get into the hot springs ;)
Wildfires were a constant threat all over the West and we dodge fires the whole trip. However their presence was constantly felt. The smoke clogged views and the smelled drifted from one campsite to the next. Thanks to all those who fought the good fight to save houses, lives and forests from the fires
